President-elect Donald Trump has made a lot of threats regarding foreign trade. In the course of his campaign, Trump said he would renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), enact steep tariffs against China and Mexico, and possibly even pull out of the World Trade Organization, among other things. But if he were to follow through on those promises, the U.S. would likely face a trade war that would hit Washington and California hard in the labor market, as well as impacting the rest of the U.S. economy, according to a September analysis by the Peterson Institute for International Economics (PIIE).
